This old farm house near the papal town of San Martino al Cimino, 5 kilometers from the city of Viterbo, is located on the Eastern slope of Mount Cimino, 80 km North of Rome. As shown in records prior to 1860, it was a single farmhouse of six rooms. Four generations of farmers have changed it into three units, plus a small detached house. The small one room detached house has a stable and small grotto underneath. The roof, floor and walls have been restored a few years ago. In the main house, the first unit has two rooms, one over the other, including a toilet/shower, with a large storage area underneath. The roof and bottom floor were restored in 2006. The second unit consists of a kitchen and living room on the first floor, bedroom and small room/toilet on the second .On the first floor, there is a terrace including a toilet and shower. Under the unit there is a stable and a grotto as well as a functioning stone baking oven. The third unit consists of two rooms, one above the other ,with a large fireplace in the lower room. A grotto is nearby. In addition to the buildings ,the adjoining land of approximately one hectare, cultivated organically for over sixty years, is planted with various fruit and nut trees and has an olive orchard. Twenty-five years ago, the present owner planted a few holm oaks and yews, which are thriving. Also a cork oak, a Portuguese laurel, quite a few Arbutus unedo, and mirtle. There are rosemaries, two kind of sages, some old roses, euphorbias, and, in a very small 'wood', wild gentians and anemones. The few surviving cornflowers are in the olive orchard. This shows that no pesticides or chemical fertilizers have ever been used there. At the moment, the second unit is habitable using the existing wood stove for heat; the first unit would be habitable with minor adjustments. The three units can revert to a single house just opening the walled doors that are still visible.
